Fern Canyon

In Northern California...true north, behind the Redwood Curtain, Fern Canyon is a truly unique experience. Its vertical walls are more reminiscent of a desert slot canyon than anything one would expect in a forested area. Some literature describes this canyon as having been carved over eons of time, but the vertical walls are actually the result of water canon mining operations that ceased in the late 1800s. Mother Nature has thankfully decorated the remains. Fern Canyon is located near the town of Orick, about 6 hours north of San Francisco.- Martin van Hemert
