Dead Horse Point, Utah

ituated near Moab, Utah, Dead Horse Point is perhaps Sone of the most photographed vistas in the world. A segment of the 2013 movie The Lone Ranger was filmed at this spot. In this view by Perry Van Schelt, the Colorado River is visible 2000 ft.(600m) below, and the dirt road in the foreground is the Shaffer Trail, which leads to Canyonlands National Park.

Regarding the origin of the place name "Dead Horse Point", the widely repeated story is that a herd of horses corralled on the point died of thirst, but a longtime resident of Moab explains that the name comes from a rock formation, visible in this panorama in the white rock immediately to the left of the river, which looks like a dead horse.
